Swiss Blog Awards

[Deutsch] [English] [Français] [Italiano] [Rumantsch]

Eine Idee geistert durch das Netz:

Swiss Blog Awards

Something’s cooking on the Web:

Swiss Blog Awards

Blogging has developed from being an obscure phenomenon into forming part of mainstream media. In these blogs, millions of individuals or groups publish relevant and irrelevant, amusing and serious content in the form of text, images, or audio. Stars do it, politicians do it and it goes without saying that scientists, musicians and diary writers also do it. Simply put: everyone and his dog blogs.

With the Swiss Blog Awards, we want to honour particularly well-done weblogs and also promote the blogging phenomenon itself. With the same way that the most beautiful and talented men and women receive accolades, we want to honour the most original, eye-catching, attractive and funny blogs.

Where and when the big day will be, who nominates the blogs, who is in the jury: this is all open, in a discussion to which you are invited. The temporary committee consists of:

We have created a weblog at http://blog.ch/award/ where you can keep up to date with proceedings, and of course everyone is invited to share his/her ideas in the comments.

Our tentative time-table sets the inaugural Award Ceremony in the first quarter of 2006. Until that day, a lot remains to be done. Let’s do it!

Jan, Nick, Urs & Matthias

Swiss Blog Awards

  8. here we go then: der schwitz blah awürg ist offiziell lanciert, he.
    dahingepatscht ist das offizielle wort.
lets patsch it good, patsch it real good.
    jury heterogen: check!

  9. Right on the spot!

    @Piceoplastic

Wieso bloggen Frauen so wenig?

    @Roger

I’d have to agree with zorra, the idea of over-discussing the concept of the awards to the nth degree is probably self-defeating. These kind of projects tend to get majorly swamped and I can easily imagine the whole Swiss blogging community wanting to have their say about how it should be run.

I’m all for the Swiss Blog Awards, primarily as a means of promoting the work of the Swiss blogging community to the outside world and to recognize the huge amount of time and effort which goes into many of the sites. The most important thing for me would be the ratings system: who decides on who gets an award? I think that it’d be fairest and most representative if there was a balloting system – probably by email to exclude fake and multiple voting – from the public and the community. I’d question the validity of a jury: not the jury members themselves, but the concept of (say) half a dozen people deciding what constitutes a good, interesting or award-worthy blog.

As to the categories, I’d imagine that a mass of categories – like the Bloggies – is unnecessary. A simple categorization system – personal, technical, creative writing, art/photoblog/moblog, best blog by a non-Swiss author – would be the best way to maintain a level of exclusivity within the Awards. Keep the Awards focused: by introducing lots of categories, the Awards will be diffused and won’t serve to present the absolute peak of Swiss blogging. Which is what I believe they should be about.

  29. @ leo: thanx for these suggestions. i tend to agree with you. i personally would much prefer a ballot vote over a jury vote. basically because jurys suck imho. and i i could deliver a more sensible reasoning, but i just dont feel like it. public ballot raises the question of how to do this technically without people cheating and i was informed that it is almost impossible not to have manipulated votes if its a public voting system. we still have to look into how the bloggies did this, because they this year have moved away from jury votes to ballot voting. and it seemed to work fine. for the categories we agree completely that it should have just enough but not too many categories. its is a bit tricky because we have 3/4 languages in this country. so some categories will have to be run mulitlingually.
@ olivia: wooo. the fisrt vote. unfortunately the link you posted gives me a “file not found” error. i would love to see the heather blog that rocks…
