A blog for blog.ch

It’s obvious: blog.ch needs a blog.

First of all, I want to do a Blogtour de Suisse. There are lots of interesting blogs, and they all deserve to be mentioned. I’m not doing “blog reviews”, I won’t assign any rankings, and this is all just my personal opinion. Hopefully people will disagree with me.

Second, News. My current method of announcing news is pathetic. The blog.ch.blog will let me do it in a more seemingly fashion.

Third, Development. Feature requests aren’t very frequent, but they do happen, and they deserve to be mentioned and discussed. And then there’s my own plans for the site, where I want to take it, what’s on my planned-features list, etc.

Currently I’m testing WordPress, and so far I like it. As usual there are things I don’t understand and features that don’t make any sense. I’ll spend some time reading the documentation wiki and just generally fool around until I know how this thing works. If I still like it, I’ll change the template to match my super blog.ch look, and then start blogging.

    Hello Alain and Guido!

Alain, with all the beers you’ve won so far, you’ll be seriously drunk when you show up at the Bloggertreffen in Basel :-).

Guido, thank you! I do hope I’ll be able to post something useful.

Any suggestions for things I should do with this blog are welcome. It’s your site as much as mine.

I have one (again): The name of the blog should be linked to the homepage of the blog. This is usually part of the feed and could propably simply be inserted?

Den Ausflug nach Basel müsste ich demnach mit dem Zug in Angriff nehmen ;)

Alain, I’m not sure what you mean? AFAIK it’s linked where it should be. On the site, the text “The blog.ch Blog” is linked to the homepage. And in the RSS feed, the LINK element in the CHANNEL element contains the link to the homepage, as per specification. Can you give me more details where I should add the link?

For example, my entry this morning:
    # 07:47 Sonnenaufgang heute (sequenz)

“#” is linked to the feed.
“Sonnenaufgang heute” is linked to the item.
It would be nice if you linked the text “sequenz” to the feeds-link (in this case http://www.sequenz.ch/).

Do you know what i mean?

Oh! Now I get it! Why would this be nice, what value would it add?

This is just intuitive. Sometimes the headline itself is not really interesting, but since it may be a blog that i haven’t seen, i just want to enter the frontpage. OK, this is usually just a click away, but do you find the homebutton here?
    http://zkoo.twoday.net/stories/463704/
it’s just a little below the z in the headline ;)

Anyways, i just think, the link should be there :) But it is of course up to you, the current release has already maaany improvements!

Alain, I figured I’d do it just to see whether it’s useful. I find it a bit distracting with all those links, perhaps someone can make a suggestion how I should style the thing? Or perhaps I should also use a # or a similar character instead of linking the complete site name? Something like this, for example:

    # 14:32 Elliot talk! Mama happy-happy! (Matthias: blog) >>

    Hi Matthias,

Thanks for the implementation, that was fast :)

    Straight-out:
the links (R,H) are kind of hard to hit, since the are so small now, i would link the blog-names with a title-tag on the description. The Links on the homepages should propably be really decent, since the current entry should get the focus.

Maybe Sis would be happy to suggest something? Quite some work done once: http://s–s.net/2004/12/13/blog-ch-redesign-ii/

Anyways, thanks for checking that option, i think it’s worth it!

Alain, I agree that the single-character links are too small; bad usability. However, linking the blog names is visually confusing because almost everything on each line becomes a link. I’ll put a couple alternative versions online tomorrow so we can check which solution is best.

Perhaps others would also like to make suggestions? Go ahead: Copy the frontpage, do whatever you want, and post the link to your work here!

From this examples i`d prefer the “rss-link” “time” “item-permalink” (“blogname with homelink”)

But like i said earlier, i think the whole Project would need a Redesign. Something lightweight and beautiful.
